Advisers for Deaf Network

A not for profit initiative aimed at promoting and improving professional services for the deaf community.

The ADN has been designed to bring together professional service providers who are committed, trained and dedicated to providing professional services to the D/deaf community.

Pioneering Accessible Legal, Accounting, and Financial Advice

Initially envisaged as an idea to allow referrals between lawyers of those firms able to service the D/deaf community, the network has now been expanded to all professional service firms and we welcome regulated Lawyers, Accountants and financial advisers into the ADN.

It remains extremely difficult for the D/deaf community in this country to obtain legal, accounting and financial advice in a way that is accessible to them. The ADN is designed to change that and to create a network of like minded firms to whom clients can be referred and be confident that such firms understand the needs of the D/deaf community and can provide their advice in an accessible format.

All members of the network get to use the ADN badge on their website. This is an honour mark that shows that said firms are able to help the D/deaf community with their legal, accounting and financial needs.

To become a member of the network firms must commit as follows:

  • Pay an annual membership fee to cover the network costs - just £70 per annum per firm
  • Ensure that all staff, including new starters, receive deaf awareness training
  • Ensure facilities such as Sign Live, Sign Video or a suitable alternative, are available to enable Deaf clients to contact them
  • Ensure their accessible contact details are available on email sign offs and displayed in a prominent place on firms websites
  • Provide suitably qualified interpreters through Sign Video, Sign Live or the NRCPD for all client meetings where the client requires it
  • To always ask how clients prefer to be communicated with and ensure that those preferences are adhered to at all times
  • As far as possible to provide clients with information in a format that they can easily access and understand
To join the ADN firms must demonstrate adherence to the above criteria.
